Inaugurates New Parliament Building: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accompanied by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, inaugurated the New Parliament Building on Sunday. During the ceremony, Adheenam seers presented PM Modi with the ‘Sengol,’ which was originally received by the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru at his residence on the night of August 14, 1947. PM Modi paid his respects by prostrating before the ‘Sengol’ and sought blessings from priests.
The new building can accommodate 888 members in the Lok Sabha and 384 members in the Rajya Sabha, with joint sessions taking place in the Lok Sabha chamber. The foundation stone for the new Parliament Building was laid by PM Modi on December 10, 2020.

PM Modi and LS Speaker Om Birla attended a multi-faith prayer ceremony at the new Parliament building. Religious leaders chanted prayers in different languages, starting the ceremony with a traditional pooja and Vedic rituals in a canopy near the Gandhi statue in Parliament.
PM Modi Honours Workers Who Built New Parliament Building
During the dedication ceremony of the new Parliament building, PM Modi paid tribute to the workers who completed its construction in record time. The Prime Minister honored the construction workers with traditional shawls and presented them with mementos.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah had previously announced that around 60,000 workers (shram yogis) would be honored by the Prime Minister during the inauguration.

The Prime Minister, accompanied by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, conducted a ‘havan’ ceremony to mark the inauguration of the new Parliament building. Priests from adheenams in Tamil Nadu offered flowers to the historic scepter ‘Sengol’ while PM Modi performed the ‘havan’ ritual.
