Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue” is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language survival thriller film that promises to be a poignant and thrilling tribute to the brave individuals who played a pivotal role in the rescue of 65 miners during the Raniganj Coalfields collapse of 1989. Directed by Tinu Suresh Desai and produced by Pooja Entertainment, the film is set to hit the screens on October 6, 2023. It features an ensemble cast led by the versatile Akshay Kumar, with Parineeti Chopra and Kumud Mishra playing significant roles.

The Backdrop

The movie is inspired by the real-life heroism of Jaswant Singh Gill, a fearless and dedicated mining engineer, and Amar Joshi, an equally brave and diligent police inspector. Their remarkable efforts saved the lives of 65 miners trapped in the dark and perilous depths of the Raniganj Coalfields in 1989. The film’s narrative is a tribute to these unsung heroes who risked their own lives to rescue others.


The film boasts a talented ensemble cast:

“Mission Raniganj” was officially announced by Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshikha Deshmukh under the banner of Pooja Entertainment. The film is based on the awe-inspiring life of Jaswant Singh Gill, whose heroic actions during the Raniganj Coalfields collapse left an indelible mark on history.

Initially titled “Capsule Gill,” the film underwent a name change, becoming “The Great Indian Rescue.” However, in September 2023, with the release of an impactful poster, it was rechristened as “Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue.”


The casting for the film was met with immense excitement. Akshay Kumar, known for his versatility and dedication, was the ideal choice to portray Jaswant Singh Gill. His first look was unveiled in July 2022, generating anticipation among fans.

Parineeti Chopra, who shares a successful history with Akshay Kumar in “Kesari,” adds her acting prowess to the film’s stellar lineup. Her presence promises to elevate the narrative.


The principal photography for “Mission Raniganj” commenced in July 2022, with Akshay Kumar leading the way. In August 2022, Parineeti Chopra and the remaining cast members joined the set, contributing to the film’s ensemble excellence.

The film was primarily shot in the United Kingdom, capturing the essence of both the coal mine rescue and the emotional journey of the characters. Additionally, certain portions of the film were filmed in Raigarh, Korba, Raniganj, and Mumbai. The filming process culminated in August 2023 with the completion of a song sequence featuring Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra.


The anticipation for “Mission Raniganj” reached its peak when the film’s poster was unveiled on September 6, 2023. As the release date approaches, audiences can mark their calendars for October 6, 2023, when this cinematic tribute to heroism and resilience will hit theaters.
